c. The amount of water a person should drink in a day (x) should
be more than 5 glasses.
d. The time takes to process the NSO document (x) is less than a
week.

Answer (Exploratory Activity)

A. This are inequality symbols

< “is less than,”

¿ “is less than or equal to,”

> “is greater than,”

¿ “is greater than or equal to”

B. a. x ≤ 2, since the fare hike cannot exceed Php 2.

b. x ≥ 60, since the car speed cannot go below 60 kph.

c. x ˃ 5, since it should be more than 5 glasses of water.

d. x < 7, since the time it takes is less than a week.

H. Making Generalization and Properties of Inequality
Abstractions about the Lesson
Trichotomy Property

For all real numbers a and b, only one of the following is true:
a<b, a = b, or a > b

Transitive Property of Inequality

For all real numbers a, b, and c:
If a<b and b<c, then a<c
If a>b and b>a, then c>a

Addition Property of Inequalities

The same number may added to both sides of the expressions.

If a < b, then a + c < b + c

If a ˃ b, then a + c ˃ b + c

Subtraction Property of Inequality (SPI)

For all real numbers a, b, and c:

If a < b, then a - c < b - c
If a ˃ b, then a - c ˃ b - c

Multiplication Property of Inequalities

1. The same positive/negative number may be multiplied to both

sides of the expression.
2. The direction of the inequality is reversed if you multiply both
sides by a negative number.
