Lesson 11– Add Mixed Numbers
Students will be able to understand how to add mixed numbers.
2. Learning Objectives:
Cognitive: Students will be able to explain how to add the mixed numbers by using sequences.
Affective: Students will be able to practice adding mixed numbers by playing a path through the maze.
Psychomotor: Students will be able to identify which number they need to add first and simplify the
solution.
3. Materials: (books, white board, A4 sheet)
4. Intro/Anticipatory Set: (Review about fractions like denominator and numerator, mixed fraction, and
let students to solve the simple addition of the mixed numbers)
5. Procedure:
Ask prior knowledge about fractions and mixed fractions
Draw two different mixed numbers fraction by using square
Ask how students can add them together
Then ask them to call out how they can write in numbers
Explain how to add mixed number in sequences
i. Add the fractions
ii. Add the whole numbers
iii. Simplify the mixed numbers
Write two or three questions on the board
Ask students to solve the problem in their note book
Ask the answers
Write on the board
Let students who got right answer to explain
Give a path through the maze
Check the answers for maze questions
Give homework sheet
Summarize how to add mixed fraction using sequences
