Mid Term Examination

Course: - B.Tech Branch/Sem: - EEE/6th sem. Sub: - CNDC (EL30105)

Time: - 1½ Hr. F. M. – 60 Date of Examination: 10.04.2021
(Answer question no-1 which is compulsory and any four from the rest.)

1 Answer the following questions: [2½ × 8]

(a) Determine the length of burst error from the following:
Data sent: 0000001000000010
Data received: 0001101100000010
(b) Cite two differences between vertical redundancy check and longitudinal redundancy
check.
(c) Find the LRC for the data blocks 11100111 11011101 00111001 10101001.
(d) Describe the differences between PPP and HDLC.
(e) What are the responsibilities of transport layer?
(f) Change the following IP addresses from dotted decimal notation to binary notation:
1) 114.34.2.8 2) 208.34.54.12
(g) List 4 key advantages of IPv6 over IPv4.
(h) Is the size of ARP packet fixed? Explain.

2 A bit stream 100100 is transmitted using the standard CRC method with the divisor 1101.
What is the actual bit string transmitted? Check whether the bit transmitted will be accepted
or rejected at receiver side. [10]

3 Consider the data to be transmitted is

10011001111000100010010010000100
Consider 8-bit checksum is used. Find out the data received by the receiver contains error or
not. [10]

4 Explain briefly the working process of host to host delivery in network layer. [10]

5 Compare the TCP header and the UDP header. List the fields in the TCP header that are
missing from UDP header. Give the reason for their absence. [10]

6 Assume a Go-Back N protocol is used with a window size of 4 and that the ACK for packet 2
gets lost. Show the events until packet 2 is acknowledged at the sender side. [10]
