ASSIGNMENT-2

Q.1 Force between two point electric charges kept at a distance d apart in
air is F. If these charges are kept at the same distance in water, how does
the force between them change?

Q.2 If the distance between two equal point charges is doubled and their
individual charges are also doubled then what would happen to force
between them ?

Q.3 Force of attraction between two point charges placed at distance d in

air is F. what distance apart should these be kept in the same medium, so
the force between them becomes (i) 3F (ii)F/3

Q.4 The dielectric constant of medium is unity, then what will be its
permittivity?

Q.5 Define dielectric constant of medium in terms of force between electric

charges?

Q.6 How does the force between two point charges changes if the dielectric
constant of the medium in which they are kept increases?

Q.7 How does the force between the two point charges change if the
distance between the charge is halved and also each charge is halved?

Q.8 Two small spheres each having a charge q are suspended by insulated
thread of length l from a hook. This arrangement is taken in space, where
there is no gravitational effect then what will be the angle between the
suspensions and the tension in each thread ?

Q.10 A glass rod when rubbed with silk acquires a charge of +1.6 × 10-12 C.
What is the charge on the silk?

Q.11 What is quantization of electric charge?

Q.12 Why can one ignore quantization of electric charge when dealing with
microscopic i.e. large scale changes?
Q.13 What does q1 + q2 signify in electric charges?

suspended by two insulating string of equal length. What would be the
effect on the force when plastic sheet is inserted between the two?
