FIELD SERVICE REPORT (SMALL GAS TURBINES)
1. Introduction
The writer arrived in the morning of 11/03/2013 to Azuliber. The work to be done is a change of
Gas Generator. Miguel Lozano and a local subcontractor by Azuliber start work on the afternoon
of 11/03/2013.
The spares were available for service and new Gas Generator was also on site.

2. Work Scope
The Gas Generator was removed in the usual manner.
The interduct has been removed, several screws, item 015 drawing RT35400F, supporting
interduct outer stator to power turbine, have been broken (7 in total).
Also has broken one bolt (item 020, drawing RT35400F), coupling seal support blocks, however all
major components were found in good condition.
It has been removed, also, the left side of interduct to remove the 1st stage stator PT. They have
broken 3 more screws (again item 015, drawing RT35400F). Has taken 1st PT stator tolerances
before and after.
All broken screws supporting outer stator to power turbine have been removed with high
difficulties.
With the power turbine completed the replacement gas generator, RT275, was positioned in the
package. The alignment to PT was achieved with a 0,5 mm shim being required the interduct
casing to achieve the correct CT to PT clearance.
Distance between PT and CT flanges: 113,90 mm.
Have controlled the tolerances W and Y with the drawing RT35400F:
Y top: 2,80 Y bottom: 2,90 W top: 4,50 W bottom: 4,00

The interduct area was rebuilt in the usual manner using all news fasteners, etc.
The PT to Gearbox alignment was then carried out with only a small amount of movement
required at the inlet “A” frame.

Work was then completed, with all pipe work and instrumentation being fitted and checked. The
new Tmax temperature settings were installed to the software and saved (Manuel Alonso, see his
report PLC13/149). These settings are:
Temp Limit = 1050 degrees C
Temp Wng = 1065 degrees C
Temp Sdn = 1080 degrees C

The VGV System was calibrated with the new Moog ram supplied with the exchange unit.
The unit was restarted on 23/03/2013.
The turbine started without problem. Waiting for the customer to fix their problem to synchronize.
The turbine has worked for two hours, the vibrations are good, but you have to control the
evolution of output PT vibrations that are have a bit higher, eventually may need a trim balance.
It remains a problem; turbine does not enter to island mode. Manuel Alonso will take care of that in
the near future. Until that problem is not solved the turbine cannot operate with reliability.
