CONNECTING WIRES
Packet Tracer 5.0 supports a wide range of network connections.

• Fiber: Fiber media is used to make connections between fiber ports (100 Mbps or 1000
Mbps) for example:
1. Fast Ethernet (100 Mb/s)
2. Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mb/s)
• Console:
Console connections can be made between PCs and routers or switches
• Copper straight-through: Used to connect two devices that operate in different layers
of the OSI model for Example:
1. Hub to router
2. Switch to PC
3. Router to hub
• Copper Cross-over: Used as a connecting between devices that operate at the same OSI
layer for example:
1. Hub to hub
2. PC to PC
• Phone: Phone line connections can only be made between devices with modem ports.
• Coaxial: Coaxial connection is used to make connections between coaxial ports such as
a:
1. cable modem connected to a Packet Tracer Cloud.
• Serial DCE: Serial connections used for WAN links are connected between serial ports
clocking on the DCE must enabled to bring up the line protocol.
• Serial DCE: : Serial connections used for WAN links are connected between serial ports.
The DTE clocking is optional
