Lourd Ernest Hanopol De Veyra

(BIOGRAPHY)

 
Lourd de Veyra is a man of many trades. He is a journalist and TV host with a penchant
for witty commentaries on Philippine politics, a poet with three published collections, a two-
time Palanca-winning essayist, and became famous as the vocalist of the Manila-based jazz rock
band Radioactive Sago Project, and the guitarist for Kapitan Kulam.
His father was a retired policeman, while his mother is a pianist, his brother is film score composer
Francis de Veyra, and his uncle is Mike Hanopol of the Juan de la Cruz band. He was born on February
11, 1975 (age 46) in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

De Veyra attended Quirino Elementary School and Colegio de San Juan de Letran for his elementary and
secondary education. He went on to the University of Santo Tomas and earned a Bachelor of Arts in
Journalism.

Lourd Ernest Hanopol de Veyra is a multi-awarded Filipino musician, poet, journalist, broadcast
personality, and activist who first became famous for being the vocalist of Manila-based jazz rock band
Radioactive Sago Project.

He has won the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature three times. A third prize in essay
(English division) in 1999, a second prize in the same category in 2003, and a first prize in teleplay
(Filipino division) in 2004. The Palanca Awards, also known as the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards
for Literature, are a series of literary awards for Filipino authors.

Lourd De Veyra is a person who enjoys sharing knowledge about Philippine history. He writes books,
videos, and poems about Filipino history in order for Filipinos to understand what was going on back
then and what is going on now. He shows us how difficult the situation was back then.

Every book or video he produces has a significant effect on Filipinos because what he is doing is about
Filipinos. He writes books to share his experience with others and to educate people about Philippine
history.
