Information for High School Families (2021)

Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to the new school year. We trust that you have had a relaxing and blessed Christmas and
are having a wonderful break. If you are new to the School community, welcome; and to returning
families welcome back. Please find below some information to assist you on the first couple of days.

Years 7, 11 & 12 (2021)

First Day Routine – Beginning of the Day
• The first School day for Years 7, 11 and 12 is Wednesday, 27 January 2021.
• There are 2 drop off zones in the carpark and parking is not permitted in these areas.
• Students in Years 11 and 12 are to meet for a meeting in R block at 8:45am.
• Students in Years 11 and 12 are expected to have checked Edumate for their timetable and be
prepared for classes(periods 3 to 6) on the first day.
• Parents of Year 7 students are asked to drop their child in front of Enrolments building–
(CSLewis House). Please aim to arrive at approximately 8.20 am. Mr Chris Smith will provide
greater detail about the first day next week to Year 7 families. Until we receive updated advice
from the Government, we will continue to limit the number of Parents onsite and we
encourage existing families to farewell your child quickly and then move back to your car.
• From the Enrolments building, Year 7 students will be directed to School Hall located in the
middle of the School, with their bags.

Years 8, 9 & 12 (2021)

• The first School day for Years 8, 9 and 10 is Thursday, 28 January 2021.
• New students are to meet outside the Enrolments Office. From there, the new student will be
collected and taken to the High School assembly.
• At 8.40 am the bell will ring and all students will line up in their year groups in H Quad. Staff
will be there to help with this process.
• After a short assembly, students will be dismissed to meet with their Year Adviser.
• Students in Years 8, 9 and 10 are expected to have checked Edumate for their timetable and
be prepared for classes
• Until we receive updated advice from the Government, we will continue to limit the number
of Parents onsite and we encourage you to farewell your child quickly and then move back to
your car.

End of the Day Routine

• The School day ends at 3.10 pm. Parent / Carers are to remain in the carpark.
• When the bell rings, students will be dismissed by their class teacher and will then make their
way independently to meet their Parent/Carer who is here to collect them in the carpark, or
to the bus bay to catch the bus.
• We endeavour to make afternoon dismissal as efficient as possible and would therefore ask
that all parents aim to arrive promptly at 3.10 pm. Parents are not allowed to enter the
school grounds.
Uniform

Parents are reminded that standards and expectations regarding behaviour and uniform are
important aspects of School life. It is our desire to have the students in our community have a high
standard of personal appearance by wearing their uniform well.
• Students will wear their School Summer Uniform with fully enclosed black lace up, heeled
leather shoes.
• Jewellery is restricted to wrist watches (not smart watches) and 1 small plain gold, silver or
small gemstone stud, or sleeper per ear (girls only). Students wearing jewellery will be
required to immediately remove the jewellery and this will be held at Student Reception,
labelled with their name, to be collected at the end of the school day.
• If your child has had additional earrings or other piercings during the holidays, please be
advised that these will have to be removed prior to school commencing. Students are not
permitted to wear clear piercings or band-aids over these, they must not be worn to the
School.
• Students wearing makeup (outside of School Guidelines) or nail polish will be provided with
suitable equipment to remove the makeup or polish.
• New for 2021 – False/ Acrylic nails will need to be removed prior to return to the School as
they are not part of the school uniform.
• Hair styles must be tidy and respectable, of natural colour and not attract undue attention.
Students haircuts or colour will be required to have their hair cut/coloured appropriately
prior to being permitted to return to the School on the next day.
• All girls should ensure that the length of their skirt is at or below the knee.
• The school bag is compulsory for all years.
• Remember to label your child’s clothing, so if it is lost, we can assist in returning the item to
the student.

William Carey respects the genuine practice of others’ faith and wish to work with families. If you as
a family are unable to meet, with good integrity, the uniform code, and it is not be possible to
identify a suitable alternative regarding a specific item, families can write an appeal for a specific
variation to the uniform code. Please address these to the Principal, Mr McMullen.

A copy of the Uniform guidelines can be found on the school’s website or downloaded HERE.

WCCS BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

Students will be required to bring their device on their first day. Assistance will be provided to
students to connect to the School network.
Information regarding the ‘BYOD Program’ can be accessed on the School website or an electronic
version can be downloaded HERE.

If you have purchased a new laptop over the break, you can find detailed instructions to set up the
device at the ICT help site.
In order to connect your device to WCCS Wi-Fi you will first need to provision it by visiting
https://byod.willcarey.nsw.edu.au/ from the device. This should be done at home before coming
into school. Once provisioned you will be able to connect your device to the WCCS wireless network.
Edumate and the School App

In 2021, Edumate and the School App will be the way the School will communicate about school life,
newsletters, permission notes, teacher contact details etc. We are reducing our use of emails and
paper notes. It is therefore very important that you have access to Edumate and download the
WCCS App and check the site weekly. The first major event that will require permission on the
School App or Edumate will be the High School Swimming Carnival which is held on Friday, 5th
February.

You can go HERE for instructions on how the app works and you can email
edumate@wccs.nsw.edu.au if you are unsure of your account ID and password.

The Year 7, 10, 12 Meet the teacher Evening will be held on Wednesday, 10th February and the Year
8, 9 and 11 will be held Wednesday 17th February. Further information regarding the format of these
evenings will follow in the School newsletter, published through the School App.

Should you have any further queries, please refer to the Parent/ Carer Handbook (found on the
WCCS App) in the first instance and thereafter to our School Office who will be pleased to assist you.
We look forward to seeing you on the first day of term.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Anthony Hudson Mr. Scott Roby Mr. Chris Smith
