Analysis of cylindrical Pressure vessel

A Cylindrical pressure vessel used to store fuel for industrial use, is 5 m long, and has outside
radius of 1m and thickness of 50mm. The vessel will have maximum internal pressure of 5MPa.
Knowing that vessel is made of steel, E = 207000MPa, ρ = 8.05 x 10-6 kg/mm3, poison’s ratio =
0.3.

What to do?
1. In this lab you will do manual calculation to find the (a) state of stress at a point, (b)
principal stresses and maximum shear stress.
2. Model the cylindrical pressure vessel using ST.7, apply approximate load and freedom
cases and solve the model.
3. Compare the ST.7 results with calculated results.
