At the end of this lecture..

The students should be able:

a) To illustrate some basic terms,

terminologies and symbols [C1]

b) To extract important points in Project 1

instructions and guidelines [C2]

c) To identify steps to create a boat model for

Project 1 [C2]
Project 1: Getting Started
1) Do some basic Weight Estimation.

WT = WLightship + Wdeadweight

WL = Wstructure + WDCmotor + Wshaft + Wpropeller + WBattery + Wballast + ….

Wstructure = WHull + WFrame + Wglue

Also… ρ =  Load Requirements: - WD = Payload ?? kg
- Max vessel Mass 1kg

5) Identify number of frames to be included with
proper frame spacing

6) Trace the frame outline and project it inside an A4
size paper. Print out on A4 paper with scale of 1:1.

7) Glue on the chipboard and start to cut it.

8) Similarly for skin hull, create the template and
prepare it using double A4 paper as shown
Project 1: Getting Started
9) Glue on the chipboard and start to cut it.
Your Task for this week:

1) Estimate your vessel weight at its design draft.

2) Obtain lines plan or 3D hull / Create your own hull
model.
3) Rescale the model according to the requirements
4) Create A4 template for each frame and hull skin.
5) Print all your template and make sure the size is
correct.
