This assignment asks each student group to make a structural model which includes a foundation, vertical, and
horizontal element.
When making the model all teams should follow the following criteria:
Bring to model to class. Using the model and a presentation, be prepared to describe how you created the
models which using pictures and videos of your erection process. Key items are to show are the
reinforcement details, formwork, and pouring sequences.
Be prepared to describe the loadpaths and how the structure works and why you chose the element thicknesses
you chose as well as they reinforcement details. Bring some items to load the model with – we will see
how well your structures withstand loads!
Grading will be evenly based on the following being demonstrated between the model, and presentation:
1) Completed model is stable under its own weight and doesn’t collapse with a slight bump to the table or
someone sneezing on it.
2) Correctness of overall dimensions
3) Explanation of choice of load path and how structure works
4) Explanation of choice of Structural Grid
5) Explanation of choice of structural sizes
6) Explanation of choice of reinforcement layout
7) Explanation of Erection Sequence
8) Documentation of key metrics
9) Overall Documentation (pictures/videos) of erection/construction process
Submit presentation to moodle all files in one zipped folder and labelled simply as the team name (T1, T2 etc.).
