Research question: What is the energy content in joules per gram in Cheese Cheetos Puffs, Butter &
Salt Popcorn, and Mini Rocky Mountain Marshmallows?

Background information: Food has different amounts of energy which can be measured by igniting
them. As the food burns, it emits energy. By using the heat to warm up water in the boiling tube, we
can then measure the conducted heat to calculate the energy of food in joules per gram. Each pair is
provided with 3 different types of snacks. Cheese Cheetos Puffs, Butter & Salt Popcorn, and Mini
Rocky Mountain Marshmallows. We can then use equipment (such as thermometer, boiling tube,
stand, mounted needle, etc.) and calculations (volume of water (cm3) × 4.2 (J cm-3 °∁-1) ×
temperature rise of water (°∁) )
