WARNING

Successful treatment depends on correct

operation of your sprayer.

Correct operation depends on accurate

calibration of the equipment, and this requires
careful checking.

When this checking has been undertaken, the

sprayer must be starting-up correctly, this also
being necessary for correct spraying and
operation.

Finally, to be certain that your sprayer can give

you the performance you expect, for a long time,
make sure that you undertake the maintenance
operations required.

CHECKING, STARTING-UP,
OPERATION, MAINTENANCE
are therefore essential operations, and you have
every reason to carefully read the details in this
booklet.

"This sprayer has been manufactered using

materials which withstand most plant protection
chemicals currently available on the market.
Nevertheless, BERTHOUD cannot assume
responsibility for any damage resulting from an
incompatibilitty of the crop protection chemicals
or product mixtures with the plastic materials:
(polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene,
Vitton, nitrile polyamide)."

PRECAUTIONS WHEN WELDING

When performing welding operations on your

self-propelled sprayer unit, DISCONNECT
the batteries + and – terminals.

It is imperative that the spraying pump be

started with the motor at idle speed.

Because of our policy of constant product improvement,

we reserve the right to modify product specifications or design without prior notice.

(face, eyes,...) in the event that product is sprayed or splashed on operating.
- The tap (1) is easily accessible, at the front left of the device.
- Washing, by opening the tap (1) more or less according to the required flow rate.

It is essential for the handwash tank to be filled with clear water,

through the lid (2), without any pressure.

HEIGHT OF THE BOOM
- 50 cm to 80 cm above the surface to be treated depending on the spray angle of the nozzles and their
spacing.
- If the boom is higher, there is a risk of drift.

STIRRING
- Hydraulic stirring permite obtain the production of homogeneous mixtures in the tank, before and during the
spraying operation.
- Refer to the paragraph "Liquid stirring" (page 24) for valves positions.

FOAMING INTO THE TANK

- If this occurs, reduce the engine speed or add an anti-foaming additive to the contents of the tank when
filling.
- Do not add fuel oil to the spraying mixture as an anti-foaming agent.

LAST FILLING OPERATION

- When filling the tank for the last time, add only the amount of water and chemical necessary to spray the
remaining area.

DRAINING THE TANK

- The drain valve is located under the tank. Simply pull the cord (1) to open the drain orifice (figure 15). The
user is completely safed.
- You can also drain liquid from the tank into another one. (See page 54, paragraph "Transferring").

PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR THE SERVICING OF YOUR SPRAYER
- By cleaning your sprayer regularly during and at the end of treatment seasons:
- you will avoid spraying chemical residues on the crops,
- you will ensure a good distribution of the product, while eliminating total or partial blockage of the nozzles,
- you will increase your sprayer's life.

Carry out the sprayer's maintenance operations with the engine switched off, the ignition
off and the power take-off disconnected.

CHECKS BEFORE SPRAY SEASON

- Check tyre pressure:
- See table opposite.
- Check the tightness of the wheel bolts.
- Filter:
- Make sure that the delivery filter is clean and in
good condition.
- Pipes:
- Look for any leaks.
- Check for kinks in the pipes.
- Seals and fittings:
- Check that the nuts on the fittings are tight.
- Change the seals if necessary.
- Pump:
- Check mechanical packing.
To do this:
- fill the tank,
- close the discharge valves,
- operate the pump.
If drops form at the lantern ring, at the lower orifice, the packing is worn and must be replaced (see your
Berthoud representative for this operation).
- Nozzles:
- Change them once a year or when their flow rate is 10 to 15% greater than their initial flow rate.
To do this: use the FLOW TEST BERTHOUD reference 765.241 or the 2 liters QUICK CHECK jug
BERTHOUD reference 717.685 or the LITEST flow regulators, BERTHOUD reference 272.273.
- Tank:
Check that there is no foreign matters inside the tank.

32
MAINTENANCE AFTER OPERATION
- It is also important to rinse the sprayer on the outside as well as the tractor. This cleaning is also essential
on the same day between two applications of different products.

PROCEDURE
- Remove the filters.
- Fill the tank to 20 % full with water and add detergent (All Clear, reference 778.886, 5 liters can).
- Operate the sprayer for a short period.
- Rock the sprayer by moving forward and backward with a view to agitation water into the tank.
- Leave mixture to act for 12 to 24 hours.
- Start the agitation and moving forward and backward several times, then empty using the draining valve .
- Put some clean water into the tank.
- Unscrew a nozzle, at the end of each spraying section.
- Rinse with clean water.
- Remove all nozzles and filters, and clean them.
- Reassemble.
- See chapter "Servicing the boom" (page 72).

WINTER STORAGE
- The sprayer should be wintered in a clean condition (see above).
- Completely drain the liquid circuit, making sure that the pump is not operated too long without water (2
minutes maximum).
- Grease all mechanical parts that can be rust.
- Deoxidize the contacts on the plugs (BERTHOUD reference 765.065 the KF F2 aerosol).
- Clean the outside of the machine. Paint the mechanical parts exposed (BERTHOUD reference 769.077 for
the blue paint aerosol or 778.890 for the green paint aerosol).
- Garage the machine out of the sunlight and protected against bad weather and on flat, load-bearing ground.

33
NOZZLES OR FILTER DIRTY
- Clean and rinse dirty filter or nozzles using a brush and water.

To do this, use the brush/wrench (BERTHOUD reference 779.354).

Never blow into a nozzle.

CLEANING THE DELIVERY FILTER(S) (figure 16)

- This is situated between the pump and the distribution unit after the regulating valve, near the motorized
valves.
- Provides additional filtration.
- The circuit must be isolated before cleaning the filter cartridge.
- Set all handles in position , (figure 17).
- To remove the filter cartridge, unscrew the cartridge (1) (figure 16) using a 27 mm spanner (not supplied with
the machine).

The filter cartridge needs to be cleaned after each application. Grease the seals.
Reminder: The original factory-fitted filter cartridge is 4/10 mesh. (8/10 mesh is available in spare
parts for liquid fertilizer).

MAINTENANCE OF PLASTIC VALVES

- The solvents in the mixtures can cause some seals to swell.

- If, in spite of good maintenance, the ball valves should become blocked, it is possible to unblock them simply
(see figure 18) by doing the following:
- unscrew the two nuts (2) to access the internal adjustment part (3) which you must unscrew by 1/8 of a
turn, until the spherical ball turns normally, without great effort,
- reassemble the parts in reverse order and check the valve is tight enough.

SERVICING THE BOOM

- After each use, rinse the pipework thoroughly, operating the machine for several minutes with clear water.
- Drain the pipework, particularly if there is a risk of frost.
- Keep the hinges on the arms, the bearing surfaces of the hinge cam and the uprights on the fixed frame
greased.
- Touch up the paintwork as necessary.

For more information on the spraying boom,

refer to the latter's technical sheet in the booklet's flap.
