Activity 2: Concepts and Assumptions

A literary text is a genre of literature that artistically and creatively transmits a

message. Both content and form are focused on literary texts and it has a purpose of telling a
story or entertaining. It is a fictional story which means that it describes imaginary events and
people. It is not presented as fact, though it may be based on a true story or situation and things
that are impossible to happen in real life like a frog turns into a prince, a dog turns into a horse
and many more. It also has illustrations or pictures. It helps making ideas clearer by giving
examples or by using diagrams or pictures. I think illustrations are important as it helps young
children to develop their imagination and it also help in association, for a child to understand
words, sentences and actions and to visualize a certain situation. Literary texts also have story
elements which consist of a setting and characters. A setting important to establish a setting in
your story, so the readers can visualize and experience it. If the readers don't know where or
when the action is unfolding, they will be lost. Without characters, it also couldn’t be called as
story as characters are the ones who create and push the plot forward. It also needs to be in order
so you wont waste time on unnecessary scenes and you’ll be able to maintain natural evolution
and continuity. On the other hand, an Informational text are non-fiction, It is a text that educates
the reader about a certain topic and it can appear in newspapers, textbooks and research papers.
Informational text doesn’t utilize characters and you can also read them in any order as it doesn’t
have story elements like fiction, they do not have a beginning, middle and end. Informational
text has text features, It helps the reader access the text more quickly and also offers extra detail
to help readers understand the text. It helps you locate important information in a text. Knowing
the purpose of the text feature helps you decide at which text feature to look when you want to
understand your text better. Examples of this are photographs or illustrations, diagrams and
labels. It also have keywords which are written in bold, italic or colored words in a text.
