SHIPYARD AND ENGINEERING PROJECT MANAGEMENT (LGB 40703)

Instruction: This assignment must be done on individual basis. Submit this assignment
(minimum 20 pages, Font 12 Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing) in softcopy by Week 16. Your
report must include a Table of Contents, ALL important elements as listed at Para 1 and 2,
Conclusion, Recommendations and the relevant References. You may derive information from
books, internet or any sources. At least five (5) references are required.

TASK :
1. You are the manager of Shipyard X. Assuming that there are various lay-out problems
that affect the safety and smooth work flow of your shipyard. The owner requires you to come up
with improvement plans to ensure your shipyard can be operated in a safe manner and he has
given you 5 weeks to do it. Design (manually or using computer software of your choice) a most
comprehensive, practical and logical shipyard layout, complete with berthing and docking
arrangements of your choice eg slipway, graving dock, straddle lift, syncro lift OR floating dock
etc. The facilities must be capable to handle a maximum capacity of 1000 ton. L6 50% (CLO1)

2. Explain and label in detail ALL the facilities that you have chosen. Discuss the material
flow within your upgraded shipyard, from receipt of raw materials from external source right up
to a complete product (a ship of 1000 ton) that has been completed and is tied alongside the
outfitting berth of your shipyard. L5 50% (CLO3)
