Flare on the 2-3 Shift
A 2-3 flare can be the result of an input shaft that does not fit tight into the input drum. This is often
overlooked on the bench, because it is usually cold at that time. A simple way to check the input drum
is to heat the disassembled drum in the cleaning machine. After the input drum has been warmed up,
use gloves or a shop towel to check for movement of the shaft. If there is movement, then the input
drum and shaft needs to be replaced.
Check here for a partially
obstructed feed hole. A good
indicator of shaft movement
