#Give 5 examples of each approach in assessment and describe how these assess student's
learning and the content areas.

FORMAL ASSESSMENT

1) Standardized tests assess the student's learning by means of giving fair judgement and it
can help the teachers identify problem areas in individual students, as well as schools and
curriculums. It provides guidelines for curriculum. It give teachers a structure of what needs to
be taught. When we receive the result of the test we use it to evaluate the effectiveness of our
education program. We view standardized testing data as not only another set of data points to
assess student performance , but also as a means to help us reflect on our curriculum.

2) Criterion referenced tests can give teachers an idea of how a student is advancing in class.
Results from a series of such tests can be used to help students with learning disabilities set
goals both on and off their IEP. Wherein each student's performance is compared directly to
the standard, without considering how other students perform on the test.

3) Norm referenced tests help the teachers assess how students excel to normal skill levels of
students with the se age or the scores from norm-referenced tests are used to compare
students' progress to others in their peer group. This group may contain students in the same
grade across the nation, or other categories such as special education, disability status, English
learners, gifted learners.

4) Achievement tests Identify the student level of knowledge, skills, and understanding. Build

up a clear picture of the student and his or her interests. Identify what and how the student is
thinking and learningit also assess the effectiveness of the environment on
the student's learning and it extend the student's learning.

5) Aptitude test these assess students capability or assess what a student is capable of doing or
to predict what a person is able to learn or do given the right education and instruction. It
represents a person's level of competency to perform a certain type of task.

INFORMAL ASSESSMENT
1) Checklist is use to make sure students have met all requirements of an assignment that will be
assessed. The teacher creating the checklist decides which features of the assignment
are important enough to factor into how the work will be graded or otherwise evaluated.

2) Observation these assess students learning by means of observing the performance of your students
it also assist teachers in gathering evidence of student learning to inform instructional planning. This
evidence can be recorded and used as feedback for students about their learning.

3) Portfolio these assess students learning by meand of collecting their work experinces wherein it
enables students to reflect their real performance, to show their weak and strong domain and to
observe student's progress during the learningprocess, and encourages students to take responsibilities
for their own learning.

4) Rating scale Teachers can use rating scales to record observations and students can use them as self-
assessment tools. The purpose of this is to help teachers and parents gather and share information
about young children with specific attention to characteristics that might be early signs of learning
disabilities.

5) Time sampling  this is use for collecting data or information in which you watch research participants
for a specific amount of time and record whether or not a particular behavior or activity took place. So it
helps the students to develop their critical thinking beacuse they were able to think critically at a specific
time.
