Gender Diversity:
By diversity, we mean being different or unlike others. We can also say that diversity is being
unique. Then gender diversity is used in meaning of equitable or fair representation of people of
different genders. Men and women should be given equal opportunities instead of the fact that
they come from different races, languages and backgrounds. They should be given equal rights
like their payment should be equal and they should get equal chances of promotion.

Strategies to encourage equity in the class rooms:

Given below are some of the strategies to encourage equity in the class rooms;

1. Call the name of boys and girls equal times:

If you call students by their names you should call girls as often as you call boys.
Otherwise call them as students.
2. Scheduling responsibilities:
As a teacher, I will make schedule about assigning different tasks and responsibilities to
the students. For examples the boys will not always do the arrangement of chairs, desks
etc. in the class but girls will also be given these responsibilities.
3. Equal learning opportunities:
Both boys and girls, will be given equal value and opportunities. Some people have in
their mind that boys need more preference as they have to take responsibility of family
but girls must be given equal preference since they are part of society and have
responsibilities not less than boys.
4. Appreciate equally:
Each students should be appreciated irrespective of if he is boy or girl or he comes from
any background. Students must be encouraged on their achievements.
5. Promote autonomy:
 Both boys and girls should be given sovereignty and self-determination. It will give them
confidence and they will flourish their skills.
6. Arrange group studies:
Make groups of boys and girls together instead of making alone groups of boys or girls.
Put them together and it will give them sense of equity.
7. Selecting class representative:
Make both boys and girls monitor of the class instead of only boys monitor. The girls will
get confidence and boys will also understand their value and respect.
8. Avoid the literature that shows discrimination:
We notice that in most of the text books or aids boys are shown leading the pack. Like
mostly on high posts or professionals like doctors and army officers shown in text books
are boys. As a teacher we should try to follow such text in which girls are also shown in
officer’s uniform.

Students get frustrated when they have to
perform task alone but if teacher or parents
help them in learning, they will be able to
perform easily like they learn addition
easily with their parents or teachers as
compared to doing alone.
Example 2
It is easy for a university student to
understand the philosophy when it is
discussed in class but same student finds it
difficult on his own. The instructor guides
student that how can he approach the book
and what strategies he should apply while
learning alone.
