This article talks about all the work the General Motors is doing to make innovating solutions
aimed at helping workers return to organizations or work with more confidence, streamlining and
improving workplace safety protocols. To help remove the fear of getting COVID-19, General
Motors is developing Software solutions for workplace like thermal scanning, contact tracing
and touchless printing being available to their employees as well as the public to help boost
workplace safety in the COVID-19 era.
Dr. Jeffery Hess, the medical director of General Motors says that they have implemented large
strategy, so their employees can work safely and they are achieving great success. He also said
that their software developer started improving the machinery and software’s were implanted in
the firm. So, they can be used easily.
The executive vice president and chief information officer Randy Mott, further elaborated that
they had to manage and handle the problems for their employees created by the COVID-19
pandemic quickly. Moreover, he also said that their team collaborated with experts all over the
world to help their employees in the workforce environment without any fear. They know that
many companies are affected globally and can’t managed these problems. So, they are also
providing machinery and software’s to other firms, schools etc.
The three innovations used by General motors are
 Thermal scanning kiosk
 Workplace contact tracing
 Touchless print

They made a new software that uses an infrared thermal camera with a screen or a computer to
completely scam the person for the COVID symptom’s and reducing bottlenecks at workplace
entry points and reducing physical contact between workers.
Workplace contact tracing
The general motor has made upgrades to Coronavirus Watch, an open-source contact following
app, by adding constant social distance alarms, boosting execution on the mobile phones and also
adding support for Bluetooth signals.
Touchless print
This a mobile application that will help the employees print documents with their phones by just
scanning a QR code without physically touching the phone.
Critical Analysis: Article Two
This article informs people that even in the pandemic, the General Motors has gained profit and
are trying to invest in the electric vehicle development field. So, they employees need more
employees to help them achieve success in this field that why General Motors is thinking to hire
3000 people for different departments like design, IT and engineering. The articles also inform
that the people they are looking can work remotely from their homes or somewhere safe, if they
have any kind of issue coming to their offices.
The General Motors HR Director of Global engineering Adam Yeloushan says that when ever
a person is looking for job in a specific company. They only focus on two points about
that company and they are, how they are helping the world and that they have a purpose.
Moreover, he says that the company is looking to hire up to 3000 employees for different
fields like Electrical system engineers, infotainment software engineers, developers for
Java, Android, iOS, other platforms, controls engineers etc. furthermore Mr. Yeloushan
says that they are even looking for hiring people remotely, if those people are having or
facing problem like personal reasons, family reasons or they don’t want to relocate due
to a new place due this pandemic situation. He also elaborates that now; General motors
are even providing more facilities and opportunity to their remote workers. He says that
the main reason behind this motive is to survive in this critical time and help the
people’s because a lot of talented people have suffered from this pandemic situation and
to achieve the company’s goal for creating or developing 25 models of electric cars till
2025.
