S- perform a role play on what to do during earthquake and volcanic eruption;

and

A- demonstrate the importance of first aid kit in our daily lives through sketch.

Okay, a pleasant morning class! A pleasant morning teacher!

How are you today? We’re doing good, teacher!

Before you take your seat please pick all

the litters and pieces of papers under your
chair properly. Thank you, Teacher!

You may now take your seats.

what have we discussed last meeting?

Very good, Thank you!

B. Motivation How about this picture?
Correct, Very good!
I will show a picture and you are going to
give your idea or insight about it. Alright, thank you for your cooperation.

Did you understand?

Very good. Our lesson for today is

all about natural calamities.

What else? Me, teacher!

Very good, thank you! Erosion and weathering, teacher!

Other hands!
Very good, thank you!

Very good, all of your answers are correct.

But today I am going to tackle only four
natural calamities. These are weathering,
erosion, volcanic eruption and earthquake.

Now, let’s begin with weathering.

This picture is an example of effects

of weathering.

Me, teacher!
Weathering is the breakdown of rocks,
teacher!

From the picture. Give me an idea on

what is weathering. Anyone?

Very good!

Weathering is the process of breaking

down of rocks into smaller and smaller
pieces that is caused by rain water or
heavy rains, extremes of temperature and
biological activity.
There are mechanical, chemical
and organic weathering processes.

Mechanical weathering physically breaks

up rock. One example is called frost action
or frost shattering. Water gets into cracks
and joints in bedrock. When the water
freezes it expands and the cracks are
opened a little wider. Over time pieces of
rock can split off a rock face and big
boulders are broken into smaller rocks and
gravel.
This process can also break up bricks on
buildings.

This picture is an example mechanical

weathering.

Chemical weathering decomposes or

decays rocks and minerals. An example of
chemical weathering is water dissolving
limestone.

This picture is an example of chemical

weathering.

Organic weathering happens when plants

break up rocks with their growing roots or
plant acids help dissolve rock.

This picture is an example of organic

weathering.

Next picture is an example of erosion.

Anybody has an idea on what is erosion? Me, teacher!
Erosion is the moving down of the soil,
Great idea! teacher!

Erosion is the process by which soil and

rock particles are worn away and moved
elsewhere by gravity that is caused by
natural forces such as wind or water. A
similar process, weathering, breaks
down or dissolves rock, but does not
involve movement.
Some effects of erosion are water
pollution, deforestation, mudslide or
landslide, floods and many others.

Another image for the effects of erosion

So, erosion and weathering has similar

process. Weathering does not involve
movement but erosion does.

Any clarification? No, teacher!

Okay, let’s proceed to volcanic Me, teacher!

eruption. Anybody can define what is Volcanic eruption is the releasing of gas
volcanic eruption? and lava from a volcano, teacher!

Nice idea!

Volcanic eruption is happen when lava

and gas are discharged from a volcanic
vent. The most common type of eruption
is caused by the movement of tectonic
plates, when the plates move away from
each other allowing magma to rise and fill
the gap, which can cause a gentle
explosion of thin lava.

These images are some effects of

volcanic eruption.

Now, the last one is an earthquake.

Again, anybody can give me their own Me, teacher!
idea about what is an earthquake? An earthquake is the shaking of the earth’s
surface, teacher!
Brilliant idea!

An earthquake is a sudden and violent

shaking of the ground, sometimes causing
great destruction, as a result of within the So teacher, an earthquake is one of the
earth’s crust or volcanic action. effects of volcanic eruption?

Precisely, yes. Okay, teacher.

Here are some effects of an earthquake.

Any questions or clarifications? None, teacher!

Okay now let’s have an activity.

E. Application
a. Activity 1 (The learners are starting to count off and
I am going to form you into 2 groups. form a group.)
Count off 1 to 2.

Okay now, proceed to your respective (The learners will proceed to their
groups, do it silently. respective groups.)

Are you done? Yes, teacher!

Now listen to my instruction.

I will show a picture and you are going to

guess if what kind of natural calamities it is
from the topic I have discussed recently. In
every picture, only 1 representative will
answer. A representative who can guess it
first and give the correct answer will get 1
point. Every correct answer is equivalent to
one point. The group that will have the
highest score will be the winner and can get
100 points and the loser will get 90 points.
Is it clear? Yes, teacher!
Is it fear enough, class?

Okay, let’s begin! (the learners will answer)

Correct answer: volcanic eruption

class!

b. Activity 2
Now, we have another activity.
This is a role play. With the same group,
you will make a 3-minute role play that
shows on what to do when an earthquake
and volcanic eruption occurs. For group 1,
yours is an earthquake scenario while
group 2 is volcanic eruption scenario. This
activity is equivalent to 100 points. Do

Value – Judgment Do you think that we can prevent calamities?

Brilliant.

Okay class, we all know that calamities are

unpredictable, so it’s better for us to always
be prepared and ready all the time. And it is
much better for us to have a first aid kit in
our home or always with us where ever we
go.

Do you agree with that? Yes, teacher!

IV. Assessment
So now, to test if you have really learned for today’s discussion, let’s have another group activity. With
the same group, you will draw or sketch the first aid kit that you can find in our classroom. And in every group,
1 representative will explain the importance of it in our daily lives.

V. Assignment

For your assignment, bring me an example of first aid that you can find in your house.
