MODULE 12: Alitaptap Dance
S.Y.-2020-2021

REMEMBER

Traditional dances are dances cosidered to be part of the culture of a

particular group of people. There are Visayan dances, Ilokano dances, Tagalog
dances, and Mindanao dances. Filipinos were able to create dances by imitating the
movements of animals or insects, just like the Alitaptap.

Alitaptap or firefly, is a nocturnal, winged, light- producing insect. On dark nights,

fireflies fly from tree to tree. It is always delightful to see their flickering
lights. Alitaptap is a tagalog native dance originated from Batangas.

For the dance costume, girls are dressed in Balintawak while boys are in Barong
Tagalog and white pants.

Here are the movements to be used for the dance:

1. Waltz- This is a dance step with a step, close, step pattern.

2. Point Step-This is a dance step with a point and step pattern or a step and
point.
3. 3-Step Turn – This is a dance step used in turns.
4. Kumintang- This is aturn of the hand moving from the wrist, either outward
or inward.
5. Lateral- Raise both arm at one side, either sideward right or left. This may
be done at a shoulder, chest or waist level.
6. Flutter- Move the hand and fingers up and down.
7. Do-Si-Do- This means walking forward to partner, passing back to back,
then going back to the original position.
8. Curtsy- This is a bow. The step pattern is one step to the right and point
left foot in rear back.
