 WH Questions Verb Tenses in Active Voice
(What and Who)

Wh- questions are questions that require more information in their answers. Typical wh-
words are what, where, when, why, who, how, how many, how much.

Now, we are going to explain how to create sentenses in interrogative form whit What
and who.

1. The Present Tenses:

1.1. Simple Present

Estructure: Wh + do/does + subject + verb + complement?

What do those symbols denote? / ¿qué indican esos símbolos?

What does it all mean? / ¿qué significa todo esto?

Who do you think left that message? / ¿Quién crees que dejó ese mensaje?

Who does he go after? / ¿Detrás de quien va él?

1.2. Present Continius

Estructure: Wh + be (am, is, are) + subject + complement?

What is he trying to prove? / ¿Qué es lo que intenta demostrar?

What are their conclusions? / ¿Cuáles son sus conclusiones?

But who are you really protecting? / Pero, ¿a quién estás protegiendo realmente?

By the way, who is the man in the room? / ¿Quién es el hombre de la

habitación?

1.3. Present Perfect

Estructure: Wh + have/has + subject + verb (pp) + complement?

What have I done to offend you? / ¿Qué he hecho para molestarle?

What have you done today? / ¿qué has hecho hoy?

Who has she ever hurt in her life? / ¿A quién lastimó ella en su vida?

Who has he let down? / ¿ A quién ha decepcionado?

 1.4. Present Perfect Continius

Estructure: Wh + have/has + subject + been + verb (ing) + complement?

What has she been doing? / ¿Qué ha estado haciendo ella?

What has she been talking about? / ¿Sobre qué ha estado hablando ella?

2. The Past Tenses:

2.1. Simple Past

Estructure: Wh + did + subject + verb + complement?

What did you do in Perú? / ¿qué hiciste en Perú?

What did she do with the work? / ¿qué hizo ella con el trabajo?

2.2. Past Continuous:

Estructure: Wh + was/ were + subject + complement?

What was his occupation?/ ¿Cuál fue su ocupación?

What was he like? / ¿Cómo era él?

Who was he to judge us? / ¿Quién era él para juzgarnos?

Who was the girl I just saw go in the house? / ¿Quién era la chica que entró a la
casa?
