I’m preparing for an important exam this summer but I’m not finding it easy.

I planned to spend three hours each day studying and then stop, but I get bored very
quickly and end up daydreaming or checking for messages on social media. Then,
because I waste so much time, I need to study all day! I’m really stressed, but I know
it shouldn’t be this stressful.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

In order to improve your studying you need to improve your concentration skills and
become more efficient. To do so, you could make a study plan. It is believed that
people who have a clear plan are more likely to succeed.

Before you begin your study session, create a plan for exactly how you will study.
Consider what you will study, how long you’ll spend on each subject and what study
methods you will use. Remember, the outcome is more important than how much
time you spend studying.

In addition, to improve your study efficiency, put your phone on silent mode. Ensure
that you are not signed into any social media platforms. Pack away your comic books
and any other distractions. Try and find some calming instrumental pieces and put
them on at the bare minimum volume. Music has been shown to improve your
concentration and helps relax the mind.

Studying shouldn’t be stressful. You should always try to adjust your learning
methods to improve your studying efficiency.

Speaking task
Imagine you are in government and you have been asked to make proposals to
improve the population's (adults and children) well-being.
Identify the risks to people's well-being in the areas (1-5) below. Prepare to
discuss what proposals you would make.  Example: "People often don't know
what is good or bad for them. We could propose a law saying that food
manufacturers have to indicate the content of sugar in their products on the
label."  You don't have to cover all five areas.

1) food and healthy diet

2) exercise and physical activity

3) work-life balance

4) health and medicine (smoking, health checks)

5) social support for old people

With the improvement of our living standard, our diet has been gradually enriched.
But there are a few problems. According to the World Health Organization, obesity
rates have more than doubled since 1980. In this case, we could launch a new
campaign – a call to action for everyone who is overweight to take steps to move
towards a healthier weight, with evidence-based tools and apps with advice on how to
lose weight and keep it off. We can also put reminders on the packaging of junk food,
calling on people to eat healthier.

In addition to diet, work-life imbalance is also a problem that people are facing today.
Many private companies force employees to work overtime or even during their off.. I
think it is the government's responsibility to introduce a better legal system to protect
workers' legitimate rest rights, so as to achieve a work-life balance

It is not only today's office workers who face problems, but also students and the
elderly. More and more minors are beginning to smoke, which is obviously harmful to
health. As a member of the government, I propose to carry out the real-name system
to buy cigarettes and urge dealers to ban selling cigarettes to minors.

Last but not the least, lack of social support is related to negative impacts on health
and well being, especially for older people. Having a variety of positive social support
can contribute to psychological and physical wellness of elderly individuals.
Governments should try their best to provide community-based services to older
people as this can be extremely useful for elderly individuals. Support for elderly
persons can be found in many places including: senior centers, assisted living
facilities, meal delivery and so on.
