i. The Film Theory
ii. The Penetration Theory
iii. The Surface Renewal Theory
iv. The Boundary Layer Theory
v. Dimensionless Numbers in Mass Transfer

Q#2 Design a Sieve tray for the separation of a mixture of benzene and 3 3 10
toluene on the basis of following data and information.The column
will have 30 trays, the feed entering at the 13th tray from top.
Liquid Rate ,top: L = 14,100 Kg/h, bottom: L = 15,300Kg/h;
vapour rate, top: G = 23,300 kg/h, bottom: G = 24,500 kg/h;
Liquid Density = 810 kg/m3, Average Vapor density = 2.65Kg/m3
Average Liquid Surface Tension = 20.5 dyne/cm.
Temperature;T = 82 ◦C,
Average pressure at the column top = 18psia.
Use the flow rates at column bottom for design calculations.
