Animals affected by Nuclear Disasters in Chernobyl

This bird is called the Barn Swallow, an animal that was affected by the
Chernobyl Nuclear accident, this type of bird went through many abnormalities and
majority of the birds population have also been seen to have abnormalities. The
abnormalities they go through are albinistic plumage, deformed toes, tumors, deformed
tail feathers, deformed air sacks and deformed beaks. A lot of deformation has
happened for these birds and the effect of heavy amounts of radiation exposure to them
has given them a harder time to live in the world. Although these types of birds went
through a lot of deformities, other types of birds are learning to adapt to the radiation
that is present in the environment. It was also informed that the Chernobyl Exclusion
Zone became an animal sanctuary because of lesser human presence. Researchers
have acquired the knowledge that the animals were thriving in this ground or the highly
contaminated areas it showed that the types of animals on Chernobyl didn’t really care
too much about the radiation and just wanted less human presence, this would make a
good conclusion on why these types of birds would risk their lives just to adapt to this
kind of sanctuary just to avoid human presence. The birds that have adapted to the
radiation did 2 things, one is producing more anti-oxidants and two, produce glutathione
which helps them mitigate the oxidative stress the sanctuary gives off.
The picture above is a wild boar roaming the streets of a deserted town in Japan
precisely, the town of Namie
The boars of Fukushima have been the most surprising discovery in this Nuclear
Incident, as their population was seen to be three to four time as dense as other
animals living in the radiated area, although this may seem like a good thing, it is
actually not? Why? Well because there are lots of boars roaming the area, scavenging
and foraging food is bound to deplete anytime soon and that is already happening as
boars are exploring beyond the fields and starts to enter the deserted towns people
used to live on, what’s worse is these boars are extremely toxic because of their
exposure to high amounts of radiation for a very long time and they’ll occasionally attack
humans. So far there has not been any research on the boars if they are experiencing
anything different mutations or are undergoing any abnormalities. But what we do know
so far based on the news and the information online is that these boars are now hungry
they are ready to scavenge to live another day, maybe an increase of aggressiveness
towards humans can be a mutated feature for them. Localities have also resorted in
making a proper and strong hunting plan to clear boars inhabiting the towns, a city
named Soma also setup incinerators to burn boar carcasses. The presence of
radioactive boars have surely affected how their body works and has dealt as a\ threat to
the localities and its citizens.
