* The three main biggest names in “Golden age Hollywood”
- Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, and Laurence Olivier
*The rise:
- The beginning of 1930s: nearly all feature-length movies were
presented with synchronized sound.
- Mid-1930s: movies were also in full color that gave rise to the so-
called “Golden age of Hollywood” in American Industry.
- During the 1930s and 1940s: Cinema predominantly took many
people by storm.
+ Attend twice a week.
+ Hold over 3000 people/ a single auditorium.
Ex: British attendances in 1946: highest (31 million visits per week)
* The fall:
- Due to 2 main reasons:
+ The antitrust action.
. The eight major Hollywood corporations received a case against at
the time.
=> Regulate competiton.
=> Many film companies have been prohibited.
=> Pay higher budgets for each individual film.
+ The invention of television.
Ex: -By 1984, the number of people declined to one million a week.
- Until now, most people see films on television, whether
terrestrial, satellite, subscription video on demand services.
- Moreover, the emerge of digital technology such as computers,
tablets and mobile phones is becoming more common -> provide
access to audience and enhance the modern lifestyles.
