Theory

By Archimedes' Principle;
the upthrust on the cylinder = weight of displaced wt1ter,
i.e. the weight of w.ter displticed by the cylinder .., w - w

where w = weight of cylinder in uir, w,d

w = weight of cylinder in we1ter.

Method

The volume of the cyli,1der h1:1s ulrel:fdy been detennined in experiment 1(l:I).
Using the spring balance, weigh the cylinder in w.r !:ind then in wttter,
ml:lking sure that the cylinder does not touch the bet:tker.

Rel:fdings :

Weight of the C)•linder in air =(813.4±9.8)10-3 N

Weight of the cylinder in water = (509.6± 9.8)10-3 N

Cw.culations :

1.Density of water

2.Error in density of water :

o/o error in Density = o/o error in (w 1 -w2 ) + o/o error in 9,8 + °/a error in volume.

3.Actul:11 error

Question 2 Whl:it is the actul:11 1110ight of the water displaced by the cylinder?
Question 3 lculute the ml:fss of the displl:lced wt:1ter.
Question 4 Would the density of Hot Wl:fter be the sl:fme l:IS tht of Cold
Wl:fter ? Wtly?

Conclusion

Does the vl:flue obtl:fined for the density of we1ter ugree with the expected
vl:flue?
Sugest possible sources of error in this experiment. How ct10 we improve
on the vwue of density founG and on the experiment in generul?
