THE ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE OF STUDYING

IN PANDEMIC SITUATION

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatu, Good Afternoon

Principals, teachers and friends Dear principals, teachers, and happy
friends. First of all, let us pray and praise the thanks for the presence
of Allah SWT who has given us all a chance and healthy favors, so
that we can gather in this good event. Let me stand here to deliver a
short speech entitled The advantage and disadvantage of studying in a
pandemic situation.

The development of the internet today is very fast. With the

internet, we can easily access everything easily and quickly. If used
properly, the internet will be able to provide great benefits, in addition
to adding information that is needed by students, we can also monitor
world developments via the internet. Entering the new normal era,
Indonesian people are now starting to carry out their daily activities as
usual. However, in order to maintain the safety and health of students,
a number of schools have implemented online or virtual systems
without face to face contact. This system is also known as the online
learning system.

The terms online and offline learning emerge as a form of

learning pattern in the era of information technology as it is today.
Online is an acronym for "online" as a substitute for the word online
which we often use in connection with internet technology. Online is
a translation of the term online which means connected to the internet
network. Online learning means learning that is done online, using
learning applications or social networks. Online learning is learning
that is carried out without doing face-to-face, but through existing
platforms. All forms of subject matter are distributed online,
communication is also carried out online, and tests are also carried out
online. This online learning system is assisted by several applications,
such as Google Classroom, Google Meet, Edmodo and Zoom.

During the implementation of the online model, students have

free time to learn. Students can learn anytime and anywhere, without
being limited by time and space. Students can also interact with the
teacher at the same time, such as using video calls or live chat. Online
learning can be provided electronically using forums or messages.

The term offline is an acronym for “offline” in place of the word

offline. The word "offline" is the opposite of "online". Thus, offline
learning can be interpreted as a form of learning that is not at all
connected to the internet or intranet network. Offline learning system
(outside the network) means learning using media, such as television
and radio. If students write articles or do assignments in Microsoft
Word and do not connect them to the internet network, then that is an
example of offline activity and if students do offline conferences by
meeting in person without using the internet, that is an example of
offline activity.

The advantages of learning online during a pandemic:

1. Can be accessed easily

Simply using a smartphone or other technological device such
as a laptop connected to the internet, you can access the material you
want to study. By implementing e-learning you can carry out learning
activities anywhere, anytime.

2. The cost is more affordable

Of course, we all want to increase our knowledge without
financial constraints. With the internet data package, you can access
various learning materials without worrying about missing lessons if
you are not present. It is recommended that you register a member in
e-learning because member fees are cheaper than taking lessons or
courses at learning institutions.

3. Study time is flexible

Usually most people who want to study again don't have enough
time. One reason may be that your time is already spent working.

Digital-based learning or e-learning is the solution. Time to study can

be done at any time without being tied to study hours.

4. Broad insight
By implementing e-learning, of course you will find many
things that you didn't know before. This is because some of the
subject matter available on e-learning is not yet available in printed
media such as books which are often used in conventional teaching-
learning methods. It is different from face-to-face learning which is
done by reading books.

5. more learning capacity

Studying online will give students complete control over their
learning and students can work at their own pace. Generally, students
work faster and process information with a greater capacity. This is
why studying online is thought to be better done in a shorter study
period than in class so that children don't get tired.

The disadvantages of learning online during a pandemic :

1. Limitations of the internet One of the shortcomings of e-

learning learning methods is the limited internet access. If you are in
an area where there is no stable internet coverage, it will be difficult
for you to access e-learning services. This of course still happens a lot
in Indonesia considering that some 3T areas (underdeveloped,
frontier, and outermost) are still not covered by internet access. In
addition, the price of internet data usage is still considered quite
expensive for some Indonesians. This causes the ability to take
advantage of e-learning is still considered a privilege.

2. Reduced interaction Several e-learning methods are one-way.

This causes less teacher and student interaction so that it will be
difficult for you to get further explanation about material that is
difficult to understand.

3. Understanding of the material The material taught in e-

learning is responded to based on different levels of understanding,

depending on the user's ability. Some people may be able to grasp

material more quickly just by reading, but some may take longer to
fully understand. Some even need explanations from other people in
order to understand the material being studied.

4. Lack of supervision in learning Lack of supervision in

conducting online learning makes e-learning users sometimes lose
focus. With the ease of access, some users tend to procrastinate their
study time. Self-awareness is needed so that the online learning
process becomes focused and achieves goals. Stay healthy and always
keep our spirit up!
Maybe that's all I can convey from this speech. Hopefully all
school members will always work together in realizing an outstanding
school. Therefore, let us all be active in learning, active in activities
so as to be able to provide the best for this school even in a pandemic
like this.
The achievements of this school will be realized if the students
have high morale and teachers who always guide the future of
students. Achieve sky-high dreams by making achievements wherever
