Statistics 1 Assignment 1 1st Semester 2021
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to assess your ability to apply your statistical skills and knowledge
of Microsoft Excel.

Topic
Data Analysis.

Directions
In this project, you are going to collect data, then describe it using the appropriate graphical and
numerical techniques and thereafter provide an analysis. The information below will instruct you on
how to gather your data and what you will then do with the data:

• Identify a real world variable that you can count.


• Design a data collection form to record your measurements.
• Perform the necessary measurements. You will need to record a minimum of 30
measurements.
• Enter your data into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and then use the tools and functions of
Microsoft Excel to do the following:
o Use the appropriate spreadsheet functions to derive all the relevant statistics for
the data.
o Create cells for grouping the data. Use worksheet formulas to determine the bins.
o Use the appropriate array function to group the data.
o Use the graph functionality to develop the following graphs:
 A relative bar graph with a relative less-than ogive (On the same set of axis)
 A more-than ogive
 A box plot
• Your Microsoft Excel spreadsheet must also include the following:
o A tab with a cover page (Must clearly indicate the assignment, your name, surname
and student number).
o A tab with a signed declaration form.
o A tab with the interpretation of the data.
o A bibliography (if you referenced any sources).
o A tab with the actual recorded data (scanned completed data collection form).
