They are the people who have been called out to follow Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 1:2) 1. Universal & Local Church a. Universal Church All who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ and united together by the Holy Spirit in one Spiritual body of which Christ is the head. (Galatians 3:27) b. Local Church An assembly of professing believers in Christ who have been baptized and organized themselves to do God’s will. (Matthew 28:19) b.1 Must be a Believer (Colossians 1:1-4) b.2 Must be Baptized (Romans 6:3-4) b.3 Must be a church member (I Cor. 12:21-26) 2. Fellowship The Greek word is “koinonia” that means participation with other in a common purpose. It is pointing to the communion that is shared with other believers as well as God. (Acts 2:42) a. Unity within the church (I Corinthians 1:10) b. Fellowship with God and other believers (I John 1:3, 1:7) c. Ministering to one another (Galatians 5:13) 3. Worship It is originally spelled “Worthship” meaning to acknowledge the worth of someone or something. We Christians, worship when we give honor to God for who He is. (John 4:21-24) a. God seeks genuine worshipers. (John 4:24) b. We worship God because He is worthy to be praise. (Revelation 4:10-11) c. Worshiping God involves praise. (Psalm 66:4) d. Worshiping God involves reverence (Exodus 34:8)
