AIM:

To identify and develop a new urban growth node for Coimbatore city

OBJECTIVES:
· Study the LPA region of Coimbatore District on the basis of growth patterns and urban rural continuum.
· Identify a region/area that has prospect to be a new growth node for Coimbatore city.
· Analyse the identified area to understand the character and factors that define the area.
· Identify strengths, issues and opportunities through analysis based on Kevin Lynch’s 5 elements.
· Conceptualize and develop a detailed Master Plan for a Eco-Neighborhood, keeping in mind the needs and requirements of the present and the future.
· Design architectural interventions that respond to the demands and the context of the proposed master plan.

METHODOLOGY
The urban studio’s methodology was split into three different stages. At the first stage, we have understood the urbanization trends at district level. The second stage involved the study of the selected site
area and the last stage included the preparation of conceptual master plans along with architectural interventions that respond to the site, the spine and the city.

STAGE 1 : STUDY OF URBAN GROWTH IN COIMBATORE

Delineation of study area

The initial study is based on the overall district limits of Coimbatore and proposed draft master plan 2031.Further 8 major spines of development are chosen for growth analysis.
The influencing zones are considered based on the administrative boundary and regions surrounding it at the intervals of 2.5KM,5KM and beyond it.

Urban Growth Indicators

Indicators for identifying the growth nodes of coimbatore.

Collection of data
Secondary data from authentic sources like Census of India 2001,Census of India 2011, World bank and United Nations.

STAGE 2: STUDY OF THE SITE AREA AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

Collection of primary data from the site and its surroundings through field surveys and observations

The site ‘s strength, issues and opportunities are studied based on
