Laboratory #1
Materials:
3 pcs chalk
100 ml vinegar
100 ml water
Lab gown

Procedure:
1.) Use a graduated cylinder to pour 100 mL of water into a beaker
2.) Pour 100 mL of vinegar into a second beaker
3.) Break a piece of chalk, until it is crushed. Put the crushed chalk on a piece of paper.
Repeat for the other piece of chalk
4.) At the same time, add the crushed chalk to each beaker

Data and Answer:

1.) In which beaker did physical weathering take place? Chemical weathering? Explain

Physical weathering took place in the beaker with water while chemical
weathering was in the beaker with vinegar. This happened because the chalk changed
the composition of vinegar while the mixture between the water and chalk stayed the
same with the chalk at the stayed bottom of the water.

2.) What do you think is the difference between physical and chemical weathering?
Physical weathering is the process of breaking down rocks without changing the
composition of the rock while chemical weathering changes the composition of the rocks

Laboratory #2
Materials:
2 boxes
Sand
Cutter / Scissors

Procedure:
1.) Cut the box into two halves – boxes, make sure that one is shorter than the other
2.) Place the shorter half – box inside the longer one and pour sand inside. Shake the box a
bit to level the sand surface. You are set to begin
3.) Slowly pull the boxes away from each other
4.) Discuss what will happen if half of the box is pulled
5.) Describe the image formed
6.) Predict the effects if it happened

Data and Answer:

1.) When half of the box was pulled, it had a space in between; this can be related in
forming a fault line. The effect of this will perform a divergent plate boundary which
makes the plates move apart.

2.) When half of the box was pushed, the sand was merged with one another; this can be
related in forming mountains or islands. The effect of this will perform a convergent plate
boundary which makes the plates move towards each other.
