General
Description This section provides the field and NOC engineers of 1830 PSS systems with the knowledge
base aimed for understanding of the configuration of the 1350 Optical Management System
(OMS) for 1830PSS network element creation and supervision, network element configuration
using Commissioning and Power Balancing files (CPB) and the processes required to create
the network topology which is required as a prerequisite for service creation.
Appendix A details the step by step process for accessing the 1350 OMS management
platform.
Intended The audience should have a basic knowledge of DWDM technology, 1830 PSS product
Audience portfolio, and completed at least Level 2 Certification program conducted by the Alcatel-Lucent
University. As such, this document is intended for:
Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) NOC Engineers
Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) Field Engineers
ALU-Accredited 3rd Party Installers
ALU Technical Project Managers (TPM)
ALU Customer-Facing Project Managers (CFPM)
Related This document was developed in support to the official product manuals, for which release
Versions versions are listed in the table below and should remain as the official reference sources:
Introduction PC requirements and instructions for accessing the 1350 OMS are defined in Appendix A of
this document.
The flowchart below illustrates the high level network element creation and topology discovery
using the 1350 OMS.
Note:
The CPB process which is detailed in this procedure, using the OMS to download the
configuration files, is not a mandatory requirement for the OMS Topology and service creation.
The CPB process must be completed, but the CPB configuration files can be downloaded
using the PhM/CPB either during the network deployment or in an equipment staging area.

Commissioning The EPT planning will generate commissioning files to configure the 1830 network elements,
and Power the commissioning files when downloaded from the OMS will perform the following activities
Balancing- Card and SFP inventory check
Introduction
Define Optical Physical connectivity
Set all optical power parameters
If the network topology is being configured to run in ASON GMRE layer 0 mode, we will also
use the CPB tool to download the ASON feasibility file which contains optical parameters used
by the control plane when re-computing optical trails during a network outage.
There are two types of CPB commissioning that can be run from the 1350OMS
Provision System (using Plan)
- This procedure uses the Provision System (using plan) wizard to provision network
elements configured in a standalone environment, new network elements deployed within
an existing network, during network element expansion or on a network topology based
on FOADM network element types.
Greenfield Provisioning
- The Commission Greenfield System (using plan) wizard commissions a Greenfield
network. A Greenfield network is one with no services or cross-connections in the system.
The Greenfield network commissioning process requires network connectivity between
the network elements and uses ASE power at each point around the ring to power adjust
and commission optical connections ready for service delivery.
NOTE:
The CPB process which is detailed in this procedure, using the OMS to download the
configuration files, is not a mandatory requirement for the OMS ASON NPA creation.
The CPB process must be completed, but the CPB configuration files can be downloaded
using the PhM/CPB either during the network deployment or in an equipment staging area.
The ASON feasibility files must also be downloaded.
Commissioning Follow these steps to upload the commissioning file to the 1350 OMS and run network
and Power discovery (using Plan).

Introduction Alarm messages on elementary objects (Network Access Points (NAP), Connection Access
Points (CAP), Connection Termination Points (CTP), Ports) are received from the EML layer,
processed and propagated to the affected objects.
Alarms are generated on paths, Physical Connections, Trails (both HO and MS). Elementary
Alarms are received from EML layer and processed by SDH and WDM in order to determine
the SDH/WDM object to be marked as faulty.
SDH/WDM provides for the impacted object the Alarm Severity, the Operational State and the
Probable Cause.
Alarms are forwarded from the respective manager, EML, WDM and SDH to the global alarm
view which provides alarm correlation for all alarms generated on the systems managed by
the 1350 OMS.
Alarm View To generate an alarm browser, from the OMS web portal, follow the steps below.
Step Action
1 Select Alarms from the folders on the left.
2 Double click on the Global Alarms icon to start the global alarms view.
Alarm View From any OMS generated list, the alarms of the attributes being displayed can be displayed
from OMS on the OMS.

1350 OMS 1350 OMS (Optical management system) is the Server/Client Management platform designed
Optical for 1830 PSS configuration, maintenance, and monitoring operations. The 1350 OMS
Management supports all other Optical and TDM transmission network elements within the Alcatel-Lucent
portfolio.
System
1350 OMS uses Alcatel-Lucent’s patented Wavelength Tracker™ technology at various points
along the service path to provide wavelength identification, path tracing, and power-level
monitoring that guarantee the integrity, performance, and reliability of wavelength services.
The Commissioning and Power Balancing (CPB) application is a function of the 1350 OMS
and is an embedded tool that performs:
Provisioning of a Greenfield NE
Provisioning of Greenfield networks of NEs
Power-balancing of in-service individual NEs
Power-balancing of in-service networks of NEs
Creates the Loss Report for Greenfield or existing NEs and networks
Hardware The laptop or PC must meet the following requirements in order to properly run the OMS:
Requirements OS versions: Windows 2003, Windows 2008, Windows XP SP2, Windows 7
2 GB or more of RAM
.
1350 OMS GUI Follow the below procedure to access the 1350 Graphical User Interface (GUI).
