General
Description This section provides the field engineers of 1830 PSS systems with the knowledge for
configuring Optical Regeneration configurations using the 1350 OMS Management platform
Intended The audience should have a basic knowledge of 1350 OMS Operation, DWDM technology,
Audience 1830 PSS product portfolio, and completed at least Level 2 Certification program conducted
by the Alcatel-Lucent University. As such, this document is intended for:
Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) Field Engineers
ALU-Accredited 3rd Party Installers
ALU Technical Project Managers (TPM)
ALU Customer-Facing Project Managers (CFPM)
Related This document was developed in support to the official product manuals, for which release
Versions versions are listed in the table below and should remain as the official references sources:
Pre-requisites Prior to any tasks outlined within this MOP, the following 1350 OMS configuration tasks must
be completed
Network elements have been commissioned.
Network elements have been configured using CPB.
Network Elements have been standalone tested to ensure correct internal fibre topology
connectivity.
Power commissioning is complete.
All client interfaces have been allocated on network elements.
All required network elements are supervised from the 1350 OMS.
All network element parameters have been uploaded into the 1350 OMS.
OTS Physical Topology has been constructed.
OMS sections for all OTS physical connections have been imported into OTN.
All physical connection and port information has been synchronized into OTN.
Network elements are alarm free.
Configure& To ensure correct configuration of the OTUk trails/paths which will be configured using the
Verify Client 1350 OMS, it is good practice to always assign the required client ports prior to the required
Interface OMS activities.
Technology There are several different options for trail and path construction, which do allow for creation
Type of the client ports from the OMS, but for the purposes of this MOP, all client ports (unless
otherwise indicated) will be assigned using OMS WebUI prior to the construction of the
required infrastructure.
To configure the client ports and synchronize these into the OMS, please use the following

Overview During the network design phase using Engineering Planning Tool (EPT), EPT will compute
the OT types and network resources required to provide initial traffic functionality,
If there is a configuration where transponders are used and an end to end path cannot be
completed due to optical impairments, or when re-coloring (wavelength change) is required
due to wavelength availability, then the use of Optical Regeneration will be required.
The table below defines the Optical Regeneration types which can be deployed on the 1830
PSS
OTUk Client to Client (or Back to back) Regeneration configuration consists in connection of 2 OTs
Regeneration cabled together utilizing client interfaces
Transponders supporting this type of regeneration:
11STAR1
11STAR1A
43STA1P
NOTE:
Although client interface regeneration can be deployed suing the original client type (i.e.
10Gbe, OC192/STM64) the correct approach is to use OTUk interfaces on the client ports,
this will provide for and end to end ODUk which will make fault correlation in the event of a
network outage much easier to perform
OTUk Prior to OTUk trail creation, the following 1350 OMS configuration tasks must be completed
Configuration All required network elements supervised from the 1350 OMS
Pre-requisites
Network elements have been commissioned
All network element parameters have been uploaded into the 1350 OMS
OTS Physical Topology has been constructed
OMS sections for all OTS physical connections have been imported into OTN
All physical connection and port information has been synchronized into OTN
Client OTUk The configuration for the Client OTUk Optical Regeneration example is shown below
Configuration
Overview
NOTE:
In site 2, during the CPB download process, the commissioning file automatically assigned the
OTU2 Client Ports and created the Physical topology between the two Client ports.
When the node in site 2 was synchronized, the OMS automatically created a OTU2 trail
between the two client ports
11STAR1A To create a OTU2 trail terminating on a 11STAR1A Optical Transponder, use the following
