SOP CARING FOR CLIENT'S NAILS

A. DEFINITIONS

Actions taken by a nurse to clean the nails of the hands and feet which include soaking, cutting,
filing to maintain the health of the nails of the hands and feet

B. PURPOSE

Maintain client nail cleanliness

Avoid infection in the area around the client's nails

Provides comfort

Tidy up the client's appearance

Prevent the possibility of the patient being scratched if the nails are long

Prevent odors

C. INDICATION

Patients with problems with toenails and hands

Elderly patients

Pediatric to adult patients

Diabetes patient

D. PATIENT PREPARATION

Provide an explanation of the intent and purpose of the action

Position the patient as needed

2 basins

Nail file

Towel

Washlap

Lotion

Disposable bath mat

Nail clipper

Gloves

Orange stick

F. HOW TO WORK

Washing hands

Hold tools close

Remove the patient's nail polish

Fill a basin with warm water 43-440 C

Place the basin on the bath mat and help the patient to immerse his feet

Get the patient table and place another basin on it, help the patient soak the fingernails.
Soaking is carried out for 10-20 minutes

Clean under the nails with an orange stick. remove the basin and dry the nails

Cut the patient's nails straight across at the fingertips with nail clippers. nail shape with a file.

Gently push back the cuticles using an orange stick


Put on gloves and rub the callus area of the client's feet with a washcloth

Clean under the fingers using an orange stick. Remove the feet from the basin and dry.

Clean and cut your thumbs straight across. Don't file the corners of your thumb nails
