 1. Impact of Social Networking on Education

As we always say that everything has Advantages as well as Disadvantages, so it is also applicable for
the given statement. “Online social networking has positive as well as negative impact on
Education”. But let me relate this to the given case studies to find out what is more positive or
negative impact?

In the first case study “French Exercise”. The observations taken through this case study are quite
satisfying. In the first attempt more than half of the percentage of students took part in the studying
through face book and they were interested in studying like this.

In the second case study “English Literature Exercise”. Again it was observed that most
of those who participated in the exercises found this method interesting and useful way of learning
since they could have fun while working.

In the both scenarios very few of the students who didn’t took part in Education through Social
networking sites but, On the whole, it was observed that students appreciated the use of online
social networking in classroom as a tool for learning.

Positive Impact of using Social Networking Sites for Educational purposes:

 Students who are not too keen to do homework’s can be further motivated by this new
method of learning.
 Notes could be sent for reading and then further discussions can be carried out in class.
 The problems encountered when doing homework’s can be posted online.
 There can also be discussions between students and teachers on past exam papers and
homework’s online.
 Group works and revision can also be done easily through this.
 Class works can be submitted online and if students miss a class, they can catch up on these
through online social network sites.
 Educational videos can also be uploaded on social networks sites as per requirements.

But still, “class explanations are important for interaction and comprehension purposes.”

Negative Impact of using Social Networking Sites for Educational purposes:

 Privacy and safety concerns for students

 The latter are seen as incompatible and improper for student learning.

  One of the most important negative impacts of Social networking sites is that they cause
distraction, instead of using it for studies purpose students rather enjoy browsing on social
media.
 It reduces learning and research capability, students nowadays are depending more upon these
platforms to gain knowledge as it is more easy for them instead of read their course books.

From all the above discussion and analyzing all the positive and negative impacts, I concluded that
Social Media plays an important role in every student’s life. It is often more easier and convenient
to access information online and communicate through social sites. Teachers and students can be
connected to each other and can make good use of these platforms for the benefits of their
teaching and learning.

2. Increasing Security of Social Networking Apps

Nowadays security is the most important concern of peoples weather they are using social media or
not. After reading the whole social security scenario, AI and Machine Learning there are some
important points that I have noted that are:

 Machine learning techniques have been applied for numerous social media applications
including for Twitter and Facebook in order to manage and increase the security.
 Machine Learning Techniques detect the malicious activities taking place on Social
networking apps. Nowadays there are fake news are spreaded sometimes because of
malicious software and sometimes by humans viscously posting false rumors, so for their
detection.

Detecting fake news on social media is such a great challenge. There is some work in this area to find
out about any fake news what must be done is to:

 “Train the Machine Models with numerous articles about an event or a person”. These
articles will show information regarding any person, place or thing so that they could clear
show true information related to any person, place or event. And hence increase the security.

There are several ways to increase the security of social networking apps and to avoid so many
security related issues like the posting of the users could be maliciously altered; the malicious
software could also emanate from the infected machines of the users or from the
content they post such as images and video already compromised. For solving all these issues
machine learning techniques are being explored so that they can detect this malicious software’s
also access control models for social media systems have also been developed. So, there is just

need of a system that could detect the fake news, the harassers, fake followers and everything related
to the security of social networking apps.

On a personal level everyone should follow some rules to be secure and safe on social media
platforms.

1. Employ Strong Passwords

It is the most basic social security tip we all must follow. Keep your password strong of at least 8
characters, must be mixture of numbers, symbols and capital and lower case letters. Also remember
to log out your account when it is not in use.

2. Don’t rely on Default Settings

Whenever we create a social media profile, it automatically sets itself up according to default
settings which are not secure most of the times, so to maintain the privacy customize the default
settings of the social app whenever you create account.

3. Be mindful about what you share

Avoid posting your own pictures and select Privacy to view and edit who can see your
photos, activity and information.

There are so many other ways to protect yourself and secure everything related to you on social
media because at the end all we need is our privacy and security.
