Movie selected: THE TERMINAL (2004)
Synopsis:
The Terminal is a classic movie presented by Tom
Honks as a main character. He was playing the role of a
Krakozhian man as Victor Navorski. He plans to visit America
to fulfill his fathers dream of collecting all JAZZ singers’
autographs with their photographs. Only one person left and he
has to take his autograph at ramada inn present at New York.
But the things get worst when he arrived at the airport and war
started at his country and his country become politically
unstable.
He has to remain at the airport terminal gate 67 for a long period
until he gets the autograph and get into his country. Airport
officer give him plans to escape but he did not and waited for
normalizing of his country’s situation. Navorski has a very little
knowledge of English due to this he has to face a lot of hurdles
while staying at the airport. Navorski is a creative man and he
do a lot of genius and other stuff to make his living at the
terminal. The movie has a primary focus on the linguistic and
other communication barriers he has faced during his stay at the
terminal. Towards the end of the story, he makes new friends
and learn the needed communication skills and somehow
language.
Communication barriers:
At the start of the movie, he could see in a
conversation to field staff and he asks him about routine
questions but he failed to understand. At this moment the war
started and his visa gets rejected. The officer calls the corps and
policeman asks some personal questions from Navorski but he
again misunderstood due to the linguistic communication
barrier.

Airport field officer snatch his passport and tell him to stay in this
lounge gate 67 and wait until situation gets better. We can clearly see
him facing communication barrier in the coming picture as he wants to
know about the war situation and no one help him at the terminal.
--SPOT-3:
Officer Dixon give him some escape plan as he is a man of
rules and regulations. But Navorski did not leave as all
security cameras are watching him.
--SPOT-4:
In this scene Navorski understand some of the culture and
rules and find a way to eat. He places the luggage trolly to
its position and gets some return and by using this price he
can manage for some food.
--SPOT-5:
In this scene Navorski is seen studying some books of
English and he has now a bit more command on English.
As the story goes on, he talks to many people and at the end
he has a fair enough communication skill.
--SPOT-6:
In this scene Navorski has been seen in making friends. He
helps a man to get him in a relationship of a field staff. Navorski
deliver his friend`s messages to that girl and in return his friend
gives him food. Soon he makes more friends, find some work
and get comfortable in the communication.
--SPOT-7:
Navorski help a man to his medicines with himself by
saying he has the medicine for goat and now for this kind thing
he makes more friends and his position is now like celebrity at
the airport.
--SPOT-8:
With the help of his friend who leaves him at the end of the
story saying she is not right for him, Navorski goes New York
on a one-day visa and gets the signature. Here the great story
meets its end.
