(a) Outline the following immunological methods used in biomedical analysis:

(i) immunofluorescence [5 marks]

(b) Describe how a fraction of lymphocytes can be obtained from blood and list the uses.

(a) Using a suitable example, briefly describe the basis of separation of biomolecules by

(b) Discuss the limitations of using affinity chromatography in the purification of

3. Explain why:

(a) Anion exchange chromatography is carried out using a buffer whose pH is above the pI
of the protein. [13 marks]

(b) Two 30 kDa proteins, one globular and another fibrous, can still be separated from each
other by gel filtration chromatography. [12 marks]
