General Instructions:

(i) The question paper comprises four sections A, B, C and D. There are 36 questions in the
question paper. All questions are compulsory.
(ii) Section–A - question no. 1 to 20 - all questions and parts thereof are of one mark each. These
questions contain multiple choice questions (MCQs), very short answer questions and assertion
- reason type questions. Answers to these should be given in one word or one sentence.
(iii) Section–B - question no. 21 to 26 are short answer type questions, carrying 2 marks each.
Answers to these questions should in the range of 30 to 50 words.
(iv) Section–C - question no. 27 to 33 are short answer type questions, carrying 3 marks each.
Answers to these questions should in the range of 50 to 80 words.
(v) Section–D – question no. - 34 to 36 are long answer type questions carrying 5 marks each.
Answer to these questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
(vi) There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some questions. A
student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.
(vii) Wherever necessary, neat and properly labeled diagrams should be drawn

SECTION A

3. A student connects a coil of wire with a sensitive galvanometer as shown in 1
figure. He will observe the deflection in the galvanometer if bar magnet is

(a) placed near one of the faces of the coil and parallel to the axis of the coil (b)
placed near one of the faces of the coil and perpendicular to the axis of the coil
(c) moved towards or away from the coil and parallel to the axis of the coil (d)
placed inside the coil
4. How will you use two identical prisms so that a narrow beam of white light 1
incident on one prism emerges out of the second prism as white light?
For question numbers 5, 6 and 6, two statements are given- one labeled Assertion (A) and the other
labeled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) as
given below:
a) Both A and R are true, and R is correct explanation of the assertion.
b) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
c) A is true, but R is false.
d) A is false, but R is true
5. Assertion (A): Green plants are autotrophs. 1
Reason (R): Plants synthesise or make their own food from raw materials
like CO2 and H2O in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll.
6. Assertion (A): Sexual reproduction allows more variations then 1
asexual reproduction.
Resaon (R): Asexual reproduction is the reproduction which does
not involve sex cells.
7. Assertion (A): Depletion of ozone layer is a cause of skin cancer in 1
human beings.
Reason (R): It is due to increase of immunity in humans.

8. Light enters from air to glass having refractive index 1.50. The speed of light in 1

(a) 2 x 108 m s−1 (b) 3 x 109 m s−1 (c) 4 x 108 m s−1 (d) 2.5 x 108 m s−1
9. Name a device that helps to maintain a potential difference across a 1
conductor.
OR
Which metal has lowest resistivity?
10. Define : Double circulation 1
11. What is menopause?
12. What is an ecosystem?
13. Mention any two methods of garbage disposal.
14. What are homologous organs?
15.
16.
17.
18.
19.
20.
SECTION B
21. (a) Consider a conductor of resistance ‘R’,length ‘L’, thickness ‘d ’ and 2
resistivity ‘ρ ’. Now this conductor is cut into four equal parts. What will be the
new resistivity of each of these parts? Why?
(b) Find the resistance if all of these parts are connected in (a) parallel (b)
series
(c) Out of the combinations of resistors mentioned above in the previous part,
for a given voltage which combination will consume more power and why?
22 Why does the sun appear reddish early in the morning? Will this phenomenon 2
be observed by an observer on the moon? Justify your answer with a reason.
23 State 2 differences between arteries and veins
24 Name the type of asexual reproduction found in :
(a) Planaria (b) rhizopus (c) spirogyra (d) hydra
25
26
SECTION C
27 Read the following and answer any four questions 3
The image formed by a convex lens depends on the position of the
object in front of the lens. When the object is placed anywhere
between focus and infinity, the image formed by convex lens is real
and inverted. The image is not obtained on the screen when the object
is placed between focus and the lens. The distance between the
optical center O of the convex lens and the focus point F1 or F2 is its
focal length. When the object shifts from − ꚙto F1, the image moves
from F2 to +ꚙ.

When the object shifts from F1 to O, the image moves from −ꚙ to O.

A student did an experiment with a convex lens. He put an object at

different distances from the lens. In each case he measured the
distance of the image from the lens. The results were recorded in the
following table.

Unfortunately his results are written in the wrong order.

a. The focal length of this lens is
(a) 20 cm (b) 25 cm (c) 30 cm (d) 35 cm
b. The image distances in the correct order (in cm) is
(a) 24, 30, 40, 60, 100
(b) 100, 24, 60, 40, 30
(c) 100, 60, 30, 40, 24
(d) 100, 60, 40, 30, 24
c. The minimum distance between an object and its real image
formed by a convex lens is
(a) 2f (b) 3f
(c) 4f (d) zero
28 a. An electric oven of 2 kW power rating is operated in a domestic 3
electrical circuit of 220 V that has a current rating of 5 A. What result
do you expect? Explain.
b. An electric Iron of resistance 20 takes a current of 5A. Calculate the
heat developed in 30s.
29 State the cause of dispersion when white light enters a glass prism. Explain 3
with a diagram.
30 Explain human excretory system
31 What is placenta ? explain its function in human
female.
32
33
SECTION D
34 a. Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image by a convex lens when 5m
an object is placed in front of the lens between its optical center and principal
focus.
b. In the above ray diagram mark the object-distance (u) and the image-
distance (v) with their proper signs (+ve or -ve as per the new Cartesian sign
convention) and state how these distances are related to the focal length (f) of
the convex lens in the case.
c. Find the power of a convex lens which forms a real, and inverted image of
magnification -1 of an object placed at a distance of 20 cm from its optical
center.
35 Explain male reproductive system with neat
labelled diagram.
