Michigan Landform Nonfiction At-Home Project

Due Friday, October 18
*Complete the attached Commitment Page and return by Monday, Sept. 30

Our students are learning about the landforms that make up Michigan’s
beautiful landscape. From lakes to forests, mountains to sand dunes, Michigan
provides outdoor fun for everyone in every season. For this project, students will
create a “web page” poster exploring a recreational area that utilizes a Michigan
landform.
YOUR PROJECT MUST INCLUDE:

1. A map of where this landform is located (can be hand drawn or printed)

a. Examples: Mackinac Island, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Porcupine
Mountains, any lake, Boyne Mountain, etc.
b. A landform is NOT specific city, but an area that contains a landform
that we use for recreation.
2. A description of the landform: how it was made (i.e. from a glacier,
etc…), interesting facts about the landform, how big it is, etc.
3. A photograph or illustration of the landform (with a caption and/or labels)
4. Activities to do at the landform (examples: hiking, biking, boating, skiing,
swimming, camping, golf, etc.)
5. Your child should generate an idea for the remaining square

This project is due Friday, October 18. I’ve included paper for the poster and a
rubric for this project, but students can be creative and design their “web page”
any way they choose as long as it fills the requirements. Posters are great,
Weebly is a free website building site, and students could also make a
Powerpoint, Google slideshow, or a Prezi.
