PCM2 board
Operation
Edition: 03
1. Presentation
The PCM2 board (Pulse Code Modulation) is used to connect the system to the public (except France)
or private exchange via a PCM link (channel by channel signalling).
The board carries out tone and Q23 (DTMF) and R2 signalling detection using a signal processing
detector. In some configurations, two detection modules are equipped.
The PCM2 board configuration is described in the module PCM2 board - Configuration .
The PCM2 board connection is described in the module PCM2 board - Connection .

- PCM interface
- frame aligner.
PCM interface
This interface comprises :
- galvanic isolation,
- HDB3 coding/decoding,
- extraction of the signalling from the PCM interface in order to send it to the signalling controller,
- insertion of the signalling from the signalling controller into the frame destined for the PCM
interface,
- frame lock
- 2 Mbit alarm generation following error detection by the line interface (LOS, AIS 2M, RAI, NOS),
Detection is carried out by a signal processor. The processor is programmed to detect 6 Q23 (DTMF)
multifrequencies or 3 R2 multifrequencies or 8 tones simultaneously.
It communicates with the common part via the MICI 2 link. A second detection module can be installed
to double R2 frequency detection capacity.
This module is the same as the first one. It is connected to the common part via the MICI3 link.
The common part interfaces the PCM board with the other system boards. For further details, refer to
module Interface boards - Hardware description - Common part .
IPCM 1, serving the PCM interface, presents a frame of the following type :
B B S B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B S B B B B B B B B B B B B B
30 31 0 16 28 29
From the -48V, the CM8 converter supplies the voltages required by the board (+5V and +12V).

If connection is :
• a DPT1 cable is used (see module DPT1 cable - Hardware description or module DPT1 RJ45
cable - Hardware description ),
- by cable 75 Ohms : two Type 5 cables are used to link the transmission equipment (see module
TY5 9PTS DIN/BNC cable - Hardware description ).
- by patch panel (VH cabinet only) : in this case the connection is carried out using the 16 ports
patch panel (see module VH rack - Connection - 32 ports module ). If the coaxial link is required, it
will be necessary to use an RJ45/BNC adaptor.
