Cycloconverter circuit has two fully controlled AC-DC converter.

1. Positive Phase converter

2. Negative Phase converter

The positive phase converter is switched to generate the positive phase of

the output voltage and turned OFF during the negative phase generation.
Similarly, the negative phase converter is switched to generate the negative phase
of the output voltage and turned OFF during the positive phase generation.
Thus, the positive phase converter switches are switched during 0 -180o of
the 25Hz frequency output voltage (refer Figure 1) and the negative phase
converter switches are switched during 180 o - 360o of the 25Hz frequency output
voltage (refer Figure 1).
50Hz input voltage completes two complete cycles within one complete
cycle of 25Hz voltage (refer Figure 1). Therefore, in the positive phase converter,
switches T1T2 are to be triggered at 0 o and T3T4 are to be triggered at 90o (refer
Figure 1 and 2), to generate the positive phase of the output voltage. In the
negative phase converter, switches T’1T’2 are to be triggered at 180o and T’3T’4 are
to be triggered at 270o (refer Figure 1 and 2), to generate the negative phase of the
output voltage.
