Research on the following models of communication namely: Laswell’s Communication
Model, Shannon-Weaver  Communication Model, E. Rogers and D.L. Kincaid’s Model, and
Carley Dodd’s Intercultural Communication  Model. Using the matrix below, identifying key

Answer the following questions clearly. You may use a separate sheet of paper if necessary.
1. What are the uses of abstraction in communication?
- is the process of taking away or removing characteristics from something in order to reduce it
to a set of essential characteristics.
2. How do people adapt to various communication behaviors?
- You may use a serious tone while discussing matters in the workplace, an encouraging tone
while evaluating an employee, or a casual tone while out with friends. When you adjust your tone,
make sure that your nonverbal and verbal communication match, which will show sincerity.
3. What conversational rules are specific to Filipinos?
- Filipino parents give this fiery-eyes-silent-look to their child; it automatically means that the
child should stop whatever he/she is doing. This is one way of Filipino parents to warn or control
their children in public without negatively catching many people’s attention.
4. What non-verbal means of communication are particular to your age group?
- In this age group, we use gestures, facial expression, eye contact, and touch to express
our feelings.
5. What images/visuals are perceived equally among cultures? Give at least three.
 Beliefs- the way that communities interpret life including religion, philosophy, narrative, symbols,
ideas, and values.
 Rituals and Ceremony- a procedure that has symbolic meaning and importance often marking a
rite of passage.
 Knowledge- any persuasive knowledge that survives across multiple generation can be considered
a tradition.
