Past Simple Tense is used for past actions that
happened
Verbs
- either at a specific time, which can either
be given by a time phrase (yesterday, last year, etc.)
- or understood from the context.
Regular Verbs add -ed to the base form, or -d if the verbs ends with -e.
Spelling rules:
In general terms > add -ed to the base form of most verbs
start started
call called
Verbs ending in -e > add -d to the base form
live lived
care cared
Verbs ending in constonant + y > change the y to i and add -ed
spy spied
carry carried
Verbs endind in vowel + y > add -ed
stay stayed
destroy destroyed
One syllable verbs ending in consonant + vowel + consonant > double the
consotant and add -ed
stop stopped
rob robbed
o Exeption > verbs ending in -w and -x
mix mixed
sew sewed
