VENN – EULER DIAGRAM


Directions: Solve the following using the Venn-Euler diagram. Write your answers on a sheet of paper with
a complete solution. Late submissions will receive a score of zero unless prior arrangements are made with
me.
1. To find out the preferences of 170 students on sports, a survey was made by the P.E. department
of FEU. The survey showed that 53 played basketball, 62 played football, 73 played volleyball, 28
played basketball and football, 43 played volleyball and football, 35 played basketball and
volleyball, and 15 played all the three games.
a. How many did not play any of the three games?
b. How many played basketball only? volleyball only?
c. How many played basketball and volleyball but not football?
d. How many played football and basketball but not volleyball?

2. In a survey made by a statistics class of 500 people regarding their preference on soft drinks, it
was found out that 136 drink Coke, 145 drink Pepsi, 147 drink Sprite, and 35 drink all the three soft
drink brands. The survey also revealed that 77 drink Coke and Pepsi, 87 drink Sprite and Pepsi,
and 74 drink Coke and Sprite.
a. How many do not drink any of the brands?
b. How many prefer Coke only? Sprite only? Pepsi only?
c. How many prefer Pepsi and Coke but not Sprite?
d. How many drink Pepsi and Sprite but not Coke?
e. How many drink Sprite and Coke but not Pepsi?
