I am being born into an era rife with technology. I have always intrigued by the enigma of life.

The
enigma has its own fortitude and was never solved until science made it leap in the writ of life. Science
has always been a passion and a miracle to me from my childhood. The unabated technological advances
in the field of science have driven me from my young age to strive higher and to shine in tomorrow's
transformative workplace. When for the first time, I heard the word biotechnology during my school days,
it kindled my curiosity. I realized that biotechnology is not just a tool but also the field of future that is
beneficial to an individual and society. I wanted to be an element of innovation in this specific field and to
bring an advanced scientific tomorrow. To be a part of this, I have to equip myself with imperative
knowledge and forge ahead with excellent technical and theoretical knowledge, which this CSIR – Summer
Research Training Program (CSIR-SRTP) will spruce up.

During my undergraduate studies in Dr. N.G.P. Arts and Science College, I was taught about
different technologies employed in biotechnology, which esteemed and evoked my interest in this field
and particularly in microbial fermentation. The wide diversity of microbes that exist among us and living
as the endmost living organism of the food chain was a solitaire for humankind. I was very fascinated
when my professor explained how an idea is formulated in the form of research. With that inspiration
during my 1st year of undergraduate studies, my colleague and I submitted a project proposal titled
"Production of Cellulase by Filamentous Fungi with Sorghum as Substrates. This project was approved,
and guided by Dr. V. Shanmugaraju, the head of the department. After completion the work was then
published in the International Journal of Research in Engineering, Science, and Management. In my second
year, I had an opportunity to work in Indo American hybrid Seeds company. I was swayed by the process
of how transgenic plants such as drought resistance, herbicide resistance plants were produced using
Recombinant DNA Technology. This motivated me to think for furthermore research ideas that benefit
our society. The final year of my undergraduate studies gave me a wider understanding of biotechnology
in broader fields such as Cancer Biology, Nanotechnology, Pharmaceutical biotechnology. In due course,
we had a call for proposing a project which will be funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT)
under the Star college scheme. This initiative was to increase the interests and opportunities for
undergraduate research. Using this opportunity, I proposed a project based on nanotechnology's
approaches in the field of biology. The study was about "Green algae Tetraselmis indica mediated green
synthesis of Zinc oxide nanoparticles and assessing it's of antibacterial, antioxidant and hemolytic
activity." The use of novel nanoparticles in biology has a more significant advantage in the medical and
food industries. The project was approved by the committee and was guided by Dr. S. Karthik, Assistant
Professor. The work was completed within a period of 5 months, and it is under the publishing process.
After my undergraduate studies, my appetency for knowledge led me to choose postgraduate studies in
biotechnology, which will be a big leap for me to achieve my goal.

Research is to see what everybody else has seen and to think what nobody else has thought

- Albert Szent Gyorgyi

Therefore, this training program will allow me to embellish my knowledge by utilizing the lectures given
by eminent scientists. I firmly believe that this training program will provide me with invaluable experience
and outstanding expertise in applied research. As CSIR-SRTP is an initiative online training program for
providing research knowledge for students and faculties from a major part of science during this crisis. I
wish to be a part of this program, which will be a prerequisite in my progress of carrier in research.
