IIM Kozhikode
Professional Certificate Programme in
Project Management (Batch 05)
“Those who plan do better than those who do not plan,
even though they rarely stick to their plan.”

— Winston Churchill

There’s no option to fail and start again in projects, as it could be

catastrophic and the stakes would be high. Therefore, a strategic plan –––
that decides the course of action within the restrictions of space, time and
resources ––– to achieve the goal is a must.

However, many external and internal factors can make the plan go haywire.
Therefore, a project manager must choose between traditional/waterfall
style of management or be agile with regular adaption of plans as required
to complete the project.

Regardless of industry size, project driven or not, companies (core as well as
ITES) can leverage project management capability into a competitive advan-
tage by completing work on time and on budget in an environment which
reinforces alignment with organizational strategy. In the past, many projects
failed due to limited knowledge of project management by the team leaders
and managers. The non – repetitive, irreversible nature of these activities and
huge capital investments makes the knowledge of scientific and advanced
skills mandatory for proper management of projects. For example, under-
standing software project management is a key success factor along with
technical skills for the IT architects. This programme is designed to impart
necessary skills in managing large projects in different domains ranging from
construction to IT.
