a) Top loading Weighing balance – to measure the weight of the core sample
b) Core sample- sample of a particular reservoir
c) 500ml Baker - graduated container to weigh and take water level measurements
d) Water- for the saturation and cleaning of core sample
e) Vernier caliper – measure the dimension of the core sample
f) Tissue – use to carefully dry the surface of the core sample before taking the weight
after saturation.
g) Manual saturator- use to saturate the core sample up to 100%.
CHAPTER 3: PROCEDURE
5) Clean samples and dry if necessary.
6) Take the weight when dry using the weighing balance.
7) Load the manual saturator with your core sample to achieve complete
saturation(100%)
8) After, roll the wet sample on already spread tissue , to remove water on the surface
of the sample
9) Use the density bottle to determine the density of the fluid (water=1.0g/𝑐𝑚3 )
10) From your readings , write out the :
11) Weight of the dry core (𝑤𝑑𝑟𝑦 )
12) Weight of saturated core (𝑊𝑠𝑎𝑡 )
13) Density of water(𝜌𝑤 )
14) Weight of saturated sample submerged in water (𝑤𝑠𝑢𝑏 )
CHAPTER 4: RESULTS
The weight of the water saturating the sample is:
Weight of water = Wtsat – Wtdry
Weight of water = 448.6 – 427.3 = 21.3g
448.6+450.3+449.1
weight of saturated sample = = 449.3 g
3
427.3+430.2+428.5
Weight of saturated sample = = 428.7 g
3
269.6+268.7+270.1
weight of immersed sample = = 269.5 g
