AUXILIARY (KATA BANTU)

Auxiliary atau kata bantu digunakan dengan dirangkaikan pada kata kerja untuk memenuhi
penyampaian makna gramatikal tertentu (seperti membentuk kalimat negatif, pertanyaan, dan
tenses). Terdapat dua kelompok auxiliary; pertama do, be, have, dan kedua modals.
1. Penggunaan do, be, have.
To do (do, does, did)
Present Past

e.g.:
 I know Prabu
 Negatif : I do not know Prabu.
 Pertanyaan : Do I know Prabu?
 She likes Salmom. Simple Present Tense
 Negatif : She does not like Salmon.
 Pertanyaan : Does she like Salmon?
 Ratu went to Cijoho
 Negatif : Ratu did not go to Cijoho.
 Pertanyaan : Did Ratu go to Cijoho? Simple Past Tense
 A : You know Seanu, do you?
B : So do I

A : Does he know I am here? Question Tag

B : Yes, he does

Note:

To be digunakan dengan bentuk participle (v-ing dan v3).

To be dipasangkan dengan v-ing untuk membentuk makna continuous (Tenses).

To be dipasangkan dengan v3 untuk membentuk makna passive (Passive voice)

To have (have, has, had)

To have digunakan dalam bentuk perfect tense.

2. Modals
Modals merupakan bagian dari auxiliary yang fungsinya untuk mempertajam makna suatu
kalimat. Modals biasanya digunakan untuk memperlihatkan pendapat pembicara akan sesuatu.
