Any thing that can be used to satisfy the construction needs is called construction resource.
Resource management is the process of planning the resources necessary to meet the
objectives of the project, and to satisfy the client’s requirements.
Without proper resource management, projects can fall behind schedule, or can become
unprofitable. The objective is to ensure the adequate and timely supply of resources, whilst at
the same time maximizing the utilization of resources between projects.
In project management, resources are required to carry out the project tasks. They can be
people, equipment, facilities, funding, or anything else capable of definition, required for the
completion of a project activity.
Fundamental to resource management is real-time visibility of; what resources are needed,
what resources are available, where resources are located, and the ability to schedule those
resources accordingly.
• Access to the up-to-date project plan with clear definition of the different
phases of work and activity scheduling.
• Understanding of the lead time required to ensure that resources are available
when needed.
• Estimate Activity Resources—The process of estimating team resources and the type and quantities
of material, equipment, and supplies necessary to perform project work.
• Develop Team—The process of improving competencies, team member interaction, and the overall
team environment to enhance project performance.
• Manage Team—The process of tracking team member performance, providing feedback, resolving
issues, and managing team changes to optimize project performance.
• Control Resources—The process of ensuring that the physical resources assigned and allocated to
the project are available as planned, as well as monitoring the planned versus actual use of resources,
and performing corrective action as necessary.
